About me
Who am I? Arttrav.com is written by Alexandra M. Korey, a Florence-based art historian turned journalist, blogger, and digital marketing specialist. (Curious? see my LinkedIN Profile).
I now work as a project manager at the digital communications company Flod, where I both develop marketing plans and execute online content for clients in the fashion and gastronomy industries, including writing company blogs, photography, and generating material for social media.
Flod also produces the longest-running English-language newspaper in Florence. Alongside the managing editor, I’m involved in every part of this paper’s production, and it comes out in paper every 2 weeks – also of course online at www.theflorentine.net.
Arttrav is a personal blog on which I can kvetch and bitch all I want – although most of the time I’m a nice person and don’t say anything bad about anything unless they deserve it. My mother taught me “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” That’s my blogging policy. I am fully responsible for my choices on this blog. If you have trouble with something I’ve written, comment on it. If I see things your way, I might change my text.
What is arttrav (now)? Arttrav is a blog about art, travel, and expat life in Florence, Italy. Alongside art historical information about Florence, Rome, and other areas of Italy and Europe, you will find articles about the people and events that demonstrate the lively nature of Italian life. And as I’ve been an expat in Florence for over 12 years, you’ll also find articles about my experience here.
What makes arttrav different from travel blogs and other websites? When I started this blog over seven years ago, it was hard to find quality material online, especially about art history. Now there is a lot more good stuff out there. What can I say? This blog contains ALL ORIGINAL CONTENT. I wrote this, and in just about all cases, I researched it, thought about it, went there, and photographed it. When it comes to the art historical information, unlike many commercial websites, my concern is to place the work within its historical and stylistic contexts.
