Florence yesterday… and still today!
A walking tour of central Florence: the streets, piazzas, churches and monuments; bygone markets, and wine bars.
Tour organized by De Gustibus open to English and Italian speakers at a cost of only 20 euros per person including authorized guide, wine tasting, snacks and apperitivo — a steal!!
SCHEDULE for Saturday May 23 2009 tour:
9.45am : Meet in piazza Ognissanti (please be on time!)
10.00am : Walking tour leaves with authorized guide Francesca Papi.
- Church and Last Supper at the Chiesa di Ognissanti: Ghirlandaio’s 1488 fresco and the church in the area that gave birth to Amerigo Vespucci.
- Piazza Santa Maria Novella: the Domenicans, the “Vigne Nuove”, and Leon Battista Alberti’s facade for the church.
- Piazza della Repubblica: the old market and the destruction of medieval Florence in the name of Florence as Capital of Italy.
- Orsanmichele: the church and protector of the guilds.
- Piazza Signoria: The political heart of the city, from republic to the Grand Dukes.

Includes: authorized guide and all programmed visits, a glass of wine and a crostone at each wine shop, the final snack on the terrace.
