Frozen Folon Sculpture in Florence

frozen_folonThis weekend Florence was graced with a slight dumping of snow and the coldest temperatures we’ve had here in years. The city was spared the most of it, while in the hills people have been sledding!

This morning I was driving over to the Virgin Mega-Gym to take a hot shower, since our hot water pipes are frozen, and noticed that “Man upon whom it always rains” [my title] by Belgian sculptor Jean-Michel Folon was also having a cold pipe day. I was not the only person stopped in the middle of the road to photograph this exceptional scene, which made it safe to cross to the middle of this traffic circle! I have been meaning to stop and photograph him for ages as I wanted to share him on arttrav; he is my favourite piece of public sculpture in Florence.

Florence in the snow is stunning – also because it happens so infrequently. The snow even stuck to the cupola of the duomo!
