July is Medici Month

Somehow I got on the mailing list of “il mese mediceo” – the Medici Month – a theatrical group that puts on interactive or roaming events to explore the history of various Medici family members. These events are in Italian though I have a feeling that a minor understanding of any romance language would suffice to enjoy the melodramatic acting and great costumes. The settings are various villas in the outskirts of Florence. Some of the proposals look rather amusing.

There’s Medici Poison (Veleni Medici) on July 16, 17, and 18 at Villa Pitiana, a murder mystery dinner with a historic medici-themed meal for 45 euros per person. The main course is: “Arrosto di Manzo al punto Rosa con Erbette Aromatiche alla Medicea bagnato da salsa Zingara servito con Funghi di Frasca Scottati e Piselli di Campo alla Fiorentina”. Sounds like a mouthful. Reservation required.

There’s also a treasure hunt for the whole family July 23 and 24, 30 and 31 2009 at Villa le Piazzole, with the more contained cost of 14 euros per person including an apperitivo/taster table.
