Greve

The main piazza The salumi The prosciutto Olive trees don't smoke.

The small town of Greve, located along the Chiantigiana, is well known for its fantastic "gallo nero" chianti wine. It is also the home of the "Bistecca alla fiorentina", which explains the prominence of butchers on the main square.

In the area there are numerous agriturismi if you want to stay the night, though Greve makes for a lovely afternoon drive from Florence. A stroll in the main piazza pretty much covers what there is to do there.

An amusing couple of signs displayed by an outdoor cafe' make an olive tree and a box hedge have the following dialogue:
"Sono un olivo. Non fumo e non sono un posacenere" = I am an olive tree. I don't smoke and I am not an ashtray.
And the hedge says: "Anch'io Non sono un olivo e non sono un posacenere" = I am not an olive tree, but i am also not an ashtray.
